Printable Diya Manipulatives

Cut-out counting tools for hands-on math practice

📋 Instructions:

  • Step 1: Choose your diya size below (small for centers, large for whole-class demos)
  • Step 2: Click “Print Diyas” to print on cardstock (recommended) or regular paper
  • Step 3: Cut along the dashed lines – each diya has a number for easy organization
  • Step 4: Optional: Laminate for durability and reuse throughout the year!
  • Step 5: Store in a labeled container or bag for easy access

💡 Classroom Tips:

  • Print multiple sheets to have 20+ diyas per student for all activities
  • Color-code by printing on different colored paper – makes sorting and grouping easier
  • Use for the interactive activity – students can place physical diyas on their desk while solving problems on screen
  • Storage idea: Keep sets of 20 in snack-size bags with student names
  • Extension: Use for patterning activities (ABAB, AABB patterns with different colored diyas)
  • Math centers: Include in counting, addition, subtraction, and comparison stations
  • Home connection: Send a sheet home for families to practice counting during Diwali
  • Durability: Laminate and add magnetic tape to backs for use on whiteboards

🏠 Family Tips:

  • Make it special: Let children help cut out the diyas (great for fine motor skills!)
  • Decorate together: Add glitter, stickers, or color them with crayons
  • Play games: “I Spy” counting games, memory matching, or hide-and-seek counting
  • Real-world math: Use them to count snacks, toys, or other items around the house
  • Story time: Act out the story problems from the interactive activity with the diyas
  • Cultural connection: Talk about Diwali while counting and playing with the diyas
